Early-stage Immune Response to HIV May Depend on Inherited Factors
How well an individual's immune system controls HIV during the earliest phases of infection appears partly to depend on the specific versions of key immune-system molecules that have been inherited. Harvard Medical School associate professor Dr. Marcus Altfeld and colleagues at Massachusetts General Hospital analyzed blood samples from more than 100 people recently infected with HIV. Their findings may provide important clues for vaccine development.
